JOANNEUM RESEARCH (JOA), headquartered in Graz, is a successful national and internationally active research institution owned by the Austrian federal states of Styria, Carinthia and Burgenland. Ideally embedded in the national and international innovation network, our researchers innovate in three high-level fields of expertise: “Information and Production Technologies”, “Human Technologies and Medicine”, and “Society and Sustainability”. JR has 7 sister institutes: DIGITAL, MATERIALS, ROBOTICS, COREMED, HEALTH, LIFE and POLICIES. The MATERIALS team of around 80 researchers provides interdisciplinary solutions across the entire value chain – from the idea to the prototype – using cutting edge technologies and methods based on miniaturisation, integration and materials optimisation. Combined with state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure MATERIALS offers innovative solutions and services tailored to the needs of business and industry in the areas of: Laser and Plasma-Assisted Production Technology,, Green Photonics and Electronics, Structured (biomimetic) surfaces, Piezoelectric sensors and energy harvesters, etc. In WAVETAILOR, JOA will put the PBF-related knowledge at the service of the development of diode-based PBF equipment, perform the process development and manufacture the demonstrators for the benefit of the industrial partners. Also JOA will coordinate the project, establish a communication with the PO and REA and ensure the smooth coordination of the project.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is within the core of Laser Production Activities in Niklasdorf, with the emphasis on PBF-LB/Mp and DED-LB/Mp technologies. The span of activities in AM at JOA includes Design for Manufacturing, Process Planning, Process Simulation, Post-Processing, Metallurgical studies and Advice to the companies.
